What?

The SmartHubs project examines shared mobility hubs, defined as a physical location where different shared transport options are offered at a dedicated and recognisable location, with public transport available within walking distance.

Where?

SmartHubs will examine, develop and apply research methods and tools in Living Labs in Brussels, IstanbulMunichRotterdam-The Hague metropolitan region, and Vienna .

How?

The main objective is to assess if a co-designed, user-centric development can enable mobility hubs to act as a game changer towards inclusive sustainable urban mobility and accessibility.

  • Open data platform and open tools  available to organizations and institutions having different needs and functioning at various spatial, cultural, policy, and technological frameworks.

  • Policy making for mobility hubs through the international cooperation of its associate partners that have experience and are willing to exchange knowledge on policy development.

  • New policies on mobility hubs and improve existing ones, allowing government authorities and public transport operators to adopt new guidelines tailored to their needs.

  • Platform for associate partners from all over Europe to join forces which will further contribute to efforts aiming to explore the potential of SmartHubs.

Why?

Goals

I

Provide a comprehensive overview of the characteristics of existing and planned mobility hubs across Europe.

II

Develop and apply innovative participatory tools that facilitate a co-design, user-centric development of mobility hubs involving users, governments and businesses to increase the attractiveness and adoption of shared and sustainable mobility modes.

III

Examine if mobility hubs are a game changer regarding the mobility and logistics choices of citizens and promote inclusive sustainable urban mobility.

IV

Examine the impacts of mobility hubs on accessibility, vulnerability and resilience of transport networks with multiple modes and mobility services.

V

Develop guidelines for the successful implementation and integration of mobility hubs in existing mobility policies (in particular Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans). The five SmartHubs research sub-objectives are linked to all UAC challenges.
